View from the Veranda
At Harbor View Hotel, we believe that art has the unique power to inspire, connect, and transform spaces. Our owner, Bernard Chiu, shares a deep passion for discovering fresh talent, which recently led him to the Newport Art Show—where he encountered an extraordinary young artist, Zack Raley.
Zack, a high school student, employs an innovative technique combining layers of epoxy, paints, and inks to create richly textured paintings with a striking three-dimensional effect. His exceptional talent has earned him national recognition, including a prestigious Gold Medal from the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, placing him among the top 1% of student artists across the country.
Inspired by the iconic, timeless view from the Harbor View Hotel’s veranda—a view that has remained unchanged for generations, yet has sparked countless unique and personal memories for every visitor—Bernard commissioned Zack to craft a custom piece exclusively for the hotel. The result is a mesmerizing painting that captures the enduring beauty of this scene, inviting viewers to step into the moment and become part of its ongoing story. Measuring over eight feet long and weighing more than 100 pounds, the painting now hangs prominently behind the front desk at Harbor View Hotel.
We warmly invite you to experience Zack’s captivating work—it’s more than a painting; it’s an immersive journey into a shared, timeless vista that continues to inspire.

Commissioned by Bernard and inspired by the hotel’s iconic, unchanging view, the piece captures the timeless beauty seen from the veranda—a scene that has welcomed generations of guests, each with their own unique memories. The moment reflects not only the celebration of emerging talent, but also the shared appreciation for a view that continues to inspire.
