HARBOR VIEW HOTEL KICKS OFF THE 2023 MARTHA’S VINEYARD FOOD & WINE FESTIVAL WITH TWO NIGHTS OF EXQUISITE CULINARY EVENTS

EDGARTOWN, MA, October 20, 2023 — The Best of the Best Opening Night Celebration at Harbor View Hotel on October 19th, marked the start of the 2023 Martha’s Vineyard Food & Wine Festival. The celebration took place in a beautifully decorated tent on the hotel’s great lawn, adorned with bistro lights and flowers. Over 300 guests savored delectable dishes prepared by chefs from various New England restaurants, including Bettini Restaurant, which is located at the Harbor View Hotel. The elegantly lit Roxy Pool Bar and Pool outside the tent provided a perfect setting for guests to mingle while enjoying lobster rolls, caviar, and wine by the fire pits.

On the evening of October 20th, Bettini Restaurant at Harbor View Hotel hosted a sophisticated six-course dinner with top-tier wines for 130 guests. The event, titled “Mother-Son Duo,” featured guest chefs Lydia Shire and her son Alex Pineda who collaborated with Executive Chef Juan Martinez of Bettini Restaurant. Lydia Shire shared with the attendees that Alex had been cooking with her since he was a young boy, and that he was the one who showed interest in cooking out of her four sons. This event has been a tradition for the past five years, and Chef Alex has been invited by Bernard Chiu, the owner of the Harbor View Hotel, to cook at the restaurant. During the dinner, Chef Alex shared stories of cooking with his mother as well as the wisdom he gained from their many years together in the kitchen.

Scott Little, the General Manager of Harbor View Hotel, acted as the master of ceremonies during the culinary event. He explained that both staff and guests alike eagerly anticipated this annual event, which showcased an impressive display of culinary talent and hospitality. The chef who created each course provided a detailed description of the dish and its preparation as it was served. For instance, Lydia described the Lobster Quenelle as a labor of love that took over three days to prepare. Following the food presentation, the sommelier at Bettini Restaurant presented the wine pairing. Overall, it was a night of exquisite food, wine, and hospitality that everyone enjoyed.

Bernard Chiu shared his delight in seeing how many foodies come to the Food & Wine dinner at Bettini every year. “This event has attracted a following over the past five years, and now, with the support of the MV Food and Wine Festival, we have welcomed a whole new group of food and wine enthusiasts to the island,” said Chiu.
