Robert Foley began his winemaking career in the Napa Valley in 1977, working under one of the sages of Cabernet Sauvignon, Joe Heitz. For the next three decades, Bob worked at just two other wineries – 15 years as the founding winemaker at Markham Vineyards and the next 15 at the renowned Pride Mountain Vineyards as their founding winemaker. He also helped develop a number of highly acclaimed wine brands including Paloma, Hourglass, Switchback Ridge, Shelter, Engel Family, and Padis. In 1998 Robert Foley Vineyards bottled its flagship Claret and has since expanded and diversified its production to offer more of the hedonistic reds Bob is famous for making – Charbono, Merlot, Petite Sirah, our ‘purple label’ Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Kelly’s Cuvée Syrah, Pinot Noir from Hudson Vineyards in Carneros, ‘The Griffin’ red blend, and both our estate-grown Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon and Howell Mountain Merlot. Bob also bottles a medium-bodied Chardonnay, the single-vineyard Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon, and Conclusão, a Port-style dessert wine. Our winery facility is on Napa County’s Howell Mountain at 2000’ elevation, where more than 1000 barrels are housed in our wine cave. Robert Foley Vineyards is a family operation of only three full-time people – Bob in the cellar, and Kelly and Shannon in the office. But if you visit, you will likely meet Jerry, as he often helps in the tasting room. Hope to see you soon!
